Life Story of Vena Irene Marquis
Vena Irene Marquis was born March 22, 1894, in Murray, Iowa, to Elisha H. and Ella Elizabeth Stephenson O’Neall, and passed away September 5, 1977, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
She was educated in the Woodburn Schools.
On January 1, 1914, she was united in marriage to L. A. Arnold at Woodburn, Iowa. Two children were born to this union.
On December 20, 1967, she was united in marriage to J. W. Marquis at Atlantic, Iowa.
She taught schools in Clarke County, Iowa. She was a member of the D.A.R. and Doe’s.
She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband J. W. Marquis of Monroe; a daughter, Daleth Wulf and husband, Herbert of Exira, Iowa; a son, F. D. Arnold and wife, Wanda of Kamrar, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Cleta Robins of Chariton, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 7 sisters: Winnie Bard of Osceola, Iowa; Grace Edmondson of Osceola, Iowa; Opal Howard of Carol Stream, Illinois; Louise Garrett of Des Moines, Iowa; Ella Davenport of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Marguerite Ruble of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and Mildred Scott of Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband on July 22, 1959; a brother, Herbert; a half-brother, John O’Neall; a half-sister, Alma Kerr; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1977, at 1:30 p.m. in the Webster-Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, Iowa, with the Rev. Jerry Wolcott, Pastor United Methodist Church in Monroe and the Rev. Ivan C. Bys, Pastor United Methodist Church, Osceola, Iowa, officiating. Burial was in The Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.
