Monroe – Wayne C. Lubberden, 79, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation for Mr. Lubberden will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2005 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The only son of Adrian and Margaret (Veenstra) Lubberden, Wayne was born on March 18, 1926 in Pella. Wayne graduated from Pella High School in 1944 and was drafted into military services before the graduation ceremony. He entered the U.S. Navy as an Electrician’s Mate on a submarine chaser. In 1946, Wayne returned from the service and became a lineman for the city of Pella. He was united in marriage to Kathryn “Kay” Heemstra in May of 1948. Wayne was self-employed in the plumbing and heating business before becoming a salesman for A. Y. McDonald in Des Moines for 29 years. He became a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church in 1967. Wayne also served on the Monroe City Council and Fire Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Monroe Methodist Men’s Group, as well as being a Shriner. His hobbies included boating, building and spending time with family and friends.
Those left to honor Wayne’s memory is his wife of 57 years, Kathryn; a daughter, Rita Rostenbach and her husband, Craig of Bondurant; a son, Michael Lubberden and his wife, Sheryl of Pella; two grandchildren, Emily and Will. Preceding Wayne in death ere his parents.
