Loar, Harry Jacob – 1878-1940

Harry Jacob Loar, son of Dr. and Mrs. George W. Loar, was born January 9, 1878 in Monroe, Iowa and departed this life at a hospital in Des Moines on November 26. The cause of death was an illness due to a fall down the basement stair resulting in three fractured ribs, one puncturing the lung.
Mr. Loar received his education in the public schools of Monroe. Afterward he engaged in farming, paper hanging and painting.
Mr. Loar was united in marriage with Miss Claudine Pearl Shankland in Monroe on March 14, 1900. To this union were born two sons Kenneth and Dale.
Mr. Loar lived with his family here at Monroe until 1916 when he moved to Richland, Iowa where he engaged in the grocery business for three years, going to Des Moines in 1919 where he has engaged in paper hanging, and painting until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Master Painter’s Association in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one brother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife of Des Moines, the two sons who also live in Des Moines; three sisters Mrs. Gertrude Shaw of Des Moines; Mrs. Mable Hummel of Newton; Mrs. Myrtle Vandermast of Los Angeles, California; three nephews and two nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Crumpacker Funeral home on last Friday afternoon by the Rev. Elmer L. Patterson of the Methodist church and interment made in the Monroe cemetery. Mrs. Cornie Huigen sang accompanied by Mrs. R. B. Gloyd. The pallbearers were: Mark I. Shaw, O. H. Fisher, John Murray, Chris Cramer, Ralph Gloyd and Will LeGrand.
Those from out of town attending the services were Dale Loar, L. P. Pittsman and Mrs. Carl Grey of Des Moines, Kenneth Moore of Sioux City, Howard Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. George Loar, Mrs. Anna Long, Less Guessford, Vern Shankland and Rex Lint of Newton.
