C. B. Livingston Rites Monday
Prominent Monroe Man Passed Away Saturday P.M. At His Home
Charles Bruce Livingston, son of Charles M. and Nancy Livingston, was born July 25th, 1856 near Chesterfield, Morrow county, O., and departed this life August 1st, 1936 at 2:15 p.m. at the age of 80 years, 7 days.
He was taken ill on Monday afternoon, soon becoming unconscious and, although everything was done for his recovery, he gradually faded until the end came.
He was the youngest of a family of six children, three boys and three girls, all having preceded him in death except one sister Sarah Hill of Long Beach, Calif.
The family came to Iowa in the fall of 1865, arrived in Monroe on Thanksgiving day, and settled on a farm southwest of Monroe which has been occupied by some of the family during all these years, being one among the few of pioneer families left that know of the privations and hardships the early settlers endured in making this community what it is, a heritage of which we can all be proud.
On January 8th, 1884, he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Ridenour who still survives although she has been an invalid for many year. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, Ralph who resides in Newton, Munson of Monroe, Mary Werner of St. Louis, Mo., Ruth Mills of Bethany, Mo., one son dying in infancy and a daughter Anna the oldest of the family who passed away on January 25th, 1906. These, with nine grand children, are left to mourn the loss of this loved one who has been their friend and counselor through all these years.
His friends were many and the community will miss one who has always stood for things that were right and for the best interests of his friends and neighbors.
We are again reminded that ‘Life is short and Death Certain.’
