Monroe – Charles Lewis, 68, of Monroe, a lifelong resident of the Monroe area, died Monday evening, May 8, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry Mc Gee, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Gifford Cemetery east of Monroe.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Helen; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Bill) Bennett of Monroe; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry of Monroe, Harley of Chariton and J. H. of Des Moines; and a sister, Georgia (Mrs. Ivan) Ross of Monroe.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by a son, Keith, parents, a sister, Roberta Ross, and an infant daughter, Janet.
The son of Charles and Gladys Hummel Lewis, he was born July 13, 1920 in Monroe.
He was married to Helen Hamilton April 25, 1942 in Princeton, Mo.
Mr. Lewis retired from the Maytag Co. in Newton in 1976.

Services Held
Charles H. Lewis, age 68, passed away at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on Monday, May 8, 1989. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Gifford Cemetery in Monroe.
He was born at Monroe on July 13, 1920, the son of Charles and Gladys Hummel Lewis. He was married to Helen Hamilton on April 25, 1942 at Princeton, Missouri. He retired from Maytag in 1976 after nearly 31 years of services.
Survivors are his wife, Helen; daughter, Mrs. Bill (Linda) Bennett of Monroe; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Harry of Monroe, Harley of Chariton, and J. H. of Des Moines; and 1 sister, Mrs. Ivan (Georgia) Ross of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith, and infant daughter, Janet, his parents, and his sister Roberta Ross.
