Services Held
Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Layton were held February 11, 1988, at the Reese Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
He died Monday, Feb. 8 at the Embassy Manor Care Center inn Newton.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel; a son, Robert, of Monroe; a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Daryl) Waters of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruby Pittenger and Jeanne Jeffords, both of Tavares, Fla., and Esther Hagen of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
The son of William and Ellen Layton, he was born Feb. 4, 1910 in Danville, Ill. He was married to Hazel Johnson, April 5, 1938 in Gilmore City.
