TRIBUTE
Ruth Arlene De Zwarte was born May 16, 1925 to Jacob and Cornelia Goemaat in Jasper County Iowa, the 4th of five children. She passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 91 years, two months.

Ruth was a member of the Pella Open Bible Church but in recent years attended First Baptist. She made a profession of faith at a very young age and served the Lord faithfully throughout her entire life.

Don and Ruth were married on August 26, 1942 at the Church of God in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following the Wednesday evening prayer and Bible study. This union was blessed with two children, Mike and Kathy, and later by their son-in-law, Dave.

In her early years Ruth lived on the farm and loved to watch the crops grow and tend to the farm animals. For several years she even had a pet pig that would follow her around the yard. Ruth also worked several part-time jobs throughout her life which included: a pencil factory, seed corn factory, Maid-Rite, A & W, in-home childcare, and grocery store. She was a hard worker but always eager to help out her co-workers whenever there was a need.

Ruth’s first love was the care and nurturing of her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and always placed the needs of others ahead of her own. Ruth consistently modeled the love of Christ and saw the God-given dignity in everyone she met, showing compassion and acceptance regardless of their station in life.

Ruth is survived by her three children: Mike of Pella, and Kathy and her husband, Dave of Midlothian, TX; four grandchildren: Christa and her husband, Derek of Beaverton, Oregon, and Josh and his wife, Morgan of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law, Beulah De Zwarte of Pleasantville, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ruth in death were: Don, her husband of 64 years; parents Jacob and Cornelia Goemaat; parents-in-law, Ed and Jennie De Zwarte; brothers Bastian and Ernie and their spouses; sisters, Clara Naaktgeboren and Dorothy De Zwarte and their spouses; brother-in-law, Harold De Zwarte; and sisters-in-law, Eva Langstraat and Jeanette Gezel and their spouses. ~ The Garden Chapel Funeral Home, Pella, Iowa 16 July 2016.
