George Warner Young
1920 - 2016

George Warner Young, the son of Hugh Frank and Mabel Lillian (Warner) Young, was born June 22, 1920 on the family farm in rural Kellogg, Iowa. He graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1940. George farmed following high school. A profession he would continue his entire life. During World War II, George was active in keeping neighbors farm machinery operating when repairs and supplies were hard to get. George raised and trained ponies and mules for entertainment and exhibition. He enjoyed constructing miniature wagons and wheels. George enjoyed being active in the Pleasant View United Methodist Church, the Kellogg Lions Club, the Kellogg Historical Society, the Jasper County Farm Bureau and the Midwest Drivers Association.

George died on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Park Centre in Newton. He was 96 years old. George was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Brodersen; and a brother in infancy.

Those left to honor George’s memory include his nephew, Regan (Betty) Brodersen; his niece, Phyllis Parsons; his great nieces and nephew, Dana (Mindy) Brodersen, Angie (Craig) Keith, Tara (Curt) Heck and Carol (Roy) Hansen.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am until service time. Memorials may be designated to the Kellogg Historical Society or the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa Sat 09 July 2016.

In addition, George was survived by a first cousin, Mary Moore, of Simi Valley, CA, and two first cousins, once removed, Jeanene Upton of Grand Saline, TX and Richard Raridon of Oak Ridge, TN.
