Life Story of Nellie Myrl Kirk
Mrs. Nellie Myrl Kirk, 74, of Oskaloosa, died Nov. 8 at the Mahaska County Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1904, near Beacon, the daughter of George Washington and Jennie Smith Gable.
Services were held Saturday at the Powers Funeral Home with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial was in the Wymore Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth of Ottumwa, Carrol of Oskaloosa and Willis of Oskaloosa; six daughters, Mrs. Burdette (Nellie) Green of Monroe, Mrs. Oral (Helen) Gregory of Colfax, Mrs. John (Mary) Allen of Newton, Mrs. Glen (Agnes) Sparks of Newton, Mrs. Chelsea (Gloria) Hunt of Newton and Mrs. Herman (Wilma) Wyatt of Oskaloosa; 18 grandchildren – among them are Mrs. Larry (Susan) Karlzen and Mrs. Franklin (Betty) Fagg both of Monroe; six great-grandchildren – among them are Dean and Debbie Karlzen the children of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Karlzen of Monroe; one brother Glen Gable of Oskaloosa, and one sister, Mrs. Geneva Christophel of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Kirk, Dec. 17, 1964. They were married Aug. 26, 1925, in Oskaloosa.
