John Hadley of This City Dies
Rites For Pioneer Jasper County Resident Will Be Held Thursday Afternoon
John Hadley, well known pioneer resident of Jasper county, died this morning at 4 o'clock at his home at 211 South Third Avenue East, after an illness of five years.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the residence and at 3 o'clock the rites will be held in the Wittemberg church. Rev. Ross S. Mills, pastor of the Wittemberg church will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the Wittemberg cemetery.
Born in 1862
John Hadley, son of Jerry and Martha Hadley, was born in New York state, Dec. 30, 1862. He came to Iowa when a young man where he worked for several years. After he returned to New York state he married Miss Alice Woodward, Jan. 16, 1879 and soon after their marriage came to Iowa and settled on a farm five miles north of Newton in the Wittemberg neighborhood.
They lived there for many years and in February 1910, his wife died and he moved then to Newton. March 4, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Seaton at Des Moines. Since their marriage they have lived in Newton. His occupation was farming but he had retired from active work many years ago. He was a member of the Congregational church.
Ill for 5 Years
Mr. Hadley had been failing in health for the last five years. He suffered a slight stroke Saturday morning. He developed the influenza which was given as the immediate cause of his death.
He is survived by his widow and one brother, Britton Hadley of Cambridge, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Emma E. Coll of Artesian, New Mexico. Two brothers preceded him in death.
