Lois Munger Grosvenor, a lifetime Newton native, was born to Ernie and Lulu (Fenner) Munger on August 17, 1926 and passed on to eternal life on Friday, April 15, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be left to the Friends of the Newton Library or the Newton Cardinal Booster Club.

She worked in retail at Jack and Jill’s and Coast to Coast. She was a legal secretary and office manager for twenty years in a local law firm.

Lois married John E. “Jack” Grosvenor on March 1, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple had two children, Kathie and Mike.

Because of her love of books she helped with the RIF book sale even before her children were in school. Later she joined Friends of the Newton Library. She started the Book Cart where patrons can buy books that have been donated or discarded. She was a charter member of the Olive Jane Lamb questers which led her to antiquing, flea markets, gar gate sales, and many new friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and voluntarily did typing and dictation for the office. As a lifetime member of the Jasper County Historical Society, she and her husband (Jack was the President) started the Open House of Christmas. Then came the Heritage Days.

Jack and Lois were always boosters of Cardinal athletics so they were charter members of Newton Cardinal Booster Club which Jack helped organize. Wanting mothers involved, Lois suggested they have coffee together after a guy’s meeting at the Maid-Rite. The next Dad’s Nite became Mom and Dad’s Nite, and both parents walked with their sons.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Olive and John Grosvenor; her son, Mike in 1981; husband, Jack in 1992; and daughter, Kathie in 2013. Also preceding her were her siblings, Lorene, Lowell, and Marvin; nieces, Vicki Scarbrough and Carolee Durant; and a nephew, Dick Milburn.

Family members left to honor her memory are her grandchildren, Marne (Joey) Verdusco, Chad (Katie) Johnson, Macy (Jim) Devyak, Megen (Derek) Clayton, and Kelley (Terry) Rasmussen; former daughter-in-law, Mickie (Bob) Pate; 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan (Don) Milburn, Dena Munger, JoAnn Munger, and Jane (Cal) Halliburton; nephews, Dave and John Milburn, Steve Milburn, and Jeff Halliburton; nieces, Shirley (Harry) Brant and Kelley Halliburton. Also my very close friends and caregivers, Bob and JoAnn Bringolf and the extended Amish friends, Gideon and Mary Stoltzfus family of 14 adult children of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania.

Lois received an excellent education in the Newton schools and wants NHS grads to remember:
