Life Story Of Gradus Aalbers
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma for Gradus Dan Aalbers of Montezuma who passed away February 23.
The Rev. Martin Gruniech officiated. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Mr. Aalbers was born April 10, 1908, near Eddyville. Most of his youth was spent at Otley. On December 27, 1933, he was married to Lenita Uitermarkt at Pella.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gaylen of Seattle, Wash., and Duane of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (LaNeva) Gauley of Montezuma and Mrs. James (Sandra) Chambers of San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Tone Aalbers of Monroe; and two sisters, Mrs. Douwe (Minnie) Poortinga and Mrs. Grace Cade, both of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Glenn, who succumbed to a tractor fatality in 1954, and an infant son, Donald, in 1947; a granddaughter, Glenda Gauley in 1963; his brothers, Gerrit, Jake, Marinus, Gysbert, William, Henry, and two infant brothers; and a sister, Cornelia DeJoode.
Mr. Aalbers spent most of his life engaged in farming in the Montezuma area and for 15 years was the County Weed Commissioner of Poweshiek County.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma.
