Monroe – Bessie Mae Aalbers, 89, of Monroe died Monday, March 1, at the Pella Regional Health Center.
Visitation will be after noon today at Walters–Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Monroe United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Gander, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorials to the Monroe Emergency Unit will be accepted.
The daughter of Fred and Christina Robus Robison, she was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Fifield in Marion County. She married Tone Aalbers Dec. 5, 1928, in Pella. A lifelong resident of Monroe, Mrs. Aalbers worked as a homemaker and was a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by five sons, Richard and L. Bruce, both of Monroe, Russell of Taylor, Mich., Larry of Newton and Jerry of Pella; five daughters, Mrs. Shirley McGregor of Reasnor, Mrs. Mary Scherer of Johnston, Mrs. Betty Iles of Pella, Mrs. Charlotte Prather of Henderson, Neb. and Mrs. Sally Knoll of Topeka, Kan.; 29 grandchildren and 26 great–grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, a grandson, one brother and one sister.

Services Today
Services for Bessie May Aalbers, 89, of Monroe will be held today, Thursday, March 4, 1999, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Monroe.
Interment will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Bessie passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center on Monday, March 1, 1999.
Memorials for the Monroe Emergency Unit have been designated by the family.

Bessie, 89, passed away Monday, March 1, 1999, at the Pella Regional Health Center.
Born August 1, 1909, at Fifield, Marion County, Iowa, Bessie was the daughter of Fred and Christina (Robus) Robison. On December 5, 1928, she was united in marriage to Tone Aalbers at Pella. They farmed in the Monroe area before retiring in 1969.
Tone preceded her in death November 5, 1983. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a son Fred, a grandson Craig, brother Tony Robison Sr. and sister “Tottie” Moore.
Surviving him (sic) are five sons: Dick and L. Bruce of Monroe, Russell of Taylor, Michigan, Larry of Newton, and Jerry of Pella, five daughters: Shirley (Mrs. Ralph) McGregor of Reasnor, Mary (Mrs. Ron) Scherer of Johnston, Betty (Mrs. Richard) Iles of Pella, Charlotte (Mrs. Curt) Prather of Henderson, Nebraska and Sally (Mrs. Steven) Knoll of Topeka, Kansas, and a daughter–in–law, Josephine (Mrs. Fred) Aalbers of Rock Valley. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends, including special neighbors Paul and Sharon Masters. Mrs. Aalbers was a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church.
