GLEN L. BRITT
April 5, 1922 - February 25, 2016

Glen L. Britt, 93, of Colfax, passed away on February 25, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Merle Hay Funeral Home. A visitation will take place from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 1 at the funeral home.

Glen was born on April 5, 1922 in Brooklyn, IA. He lived in the Colfax area for the majority of his life. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Glen was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He served from 1942-1945. He was wounded while in France and was awarded the Purple Heart. Glen married Catherine Jones in 1946, and, from this union, two daughters were born. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and antiquing. He was an avid tool collector and enjoyed carpentry. He built the house that he and Catherine raised their two daughters in. Glen worked as an assembler for Maytag for 32 years. After retirement, Glen and Catherine enjoyed “snow-birding” to Arizona. He was a member of the Colfax Historical Society and enjoyed giving talks at local nursing homes about the Civilian Conservation Corps, one room schoolhouses, and coal mining.

Glen is survived by his daughters, Glenda (Al) Bernard of Altoona and Virginia (David) Pecinovsky of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Justin (Kelly) Bernard of Allen, TX, Andrea (Scott) Atkinson of Troy, OH, Stephanie Bernard of Ankeny, Carrie (John) Deprill of Colfax, Maureen (Sean) Whittmore The Woodlands, TX, and Jonathan (Christy) Pecinovsky of Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren, Fiona, Wyatt, Meredith, Jonah, and Elizabeth; and sister, Helen Britt of Leon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; parents, Oscar and Lucinda Britt; grandson, Adrian Pecinovsky; and 5 siblings, George Britt, Beaulah Sholley, Shirley Myers, Betty Jean Britt, and Thomas Britt. ~ The Merle Hay Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa 25 Feb 2016.
