April 20, 1924 ~ February 19, 2016 (age 91)

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 27th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 26th at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton with Military Honors by American Legion Post 111 and the Iowa Honor Guard Detail of the Iowa Army National Guard.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Moose Heart or the Wounded Warrior Project they may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add Attn: Burch Family on the envelope.

Dwight E. Burch, 91, of Shawnee, Kansas; formerly of Newton died on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System in Leavenworth, Kansas.

The son of Joseph Harold and Ora Madge (Haines) Burch, he was born in Fremont, Iowa. Dwight was a graduate of Fremont High School and had attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

Dwight served his country in the U. S. Army from 03/1944-11/1945 during WW II. He was a Purple Heart Recipient. Dwight was a POW at Stalag 4B, he was captured in the Battle of the Buldge in December of 1944 and escaped in May of 1945.

On October 29, 1949, Dwight was united in marriage with Lorena Byrl Rickerd in Omaha, Nebraska. He worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 33 years; he was a supervisor in the porcelain department at the time of his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 111, a Lifetime member of VFW Post 1655 and of Moose Lodge No. 923.

Those left to honor Dwight’s memory are his son, Rick (Kristine) Burch of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Koopman and Daniel Burch; two great-grandchildren and his sister, Joan Williams of Clearwater, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorena in 2006; three brothers and three sisters. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 19 Feb 2016.
