John P. Starrett
June 30, 1930 ~ January 20, 2016 (age 85)

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg, Iowa.

Memorials to Jasper County Historical Museum or to the Newton Public Library may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Starrett Family on the envelope.

John, the son of Elmer C. and Ruth F. Parsons Starrett was born in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1948. John served his country in the U.S. Navy from October 1948 to October 1952.

On June 27, 1954, John was united in marriage with Barbara L. Spencer in Newton. They were blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Karen. John was a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Newton for 32+ years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed being outside working in the yard, gardening, working on his trucks or cars and fishing. John was a devoted and caring husband, dad, grandpa, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbor and friend.

Those left to honor John’s memory are his wife of 61+ years, Barbara of Newton; daughter, Kelly Starrett of Newton; granddaughter, Kelilah (Matt) Ibbotson of Newton; brother-in-law, Jim (Mary Jane) Spencer of Newton; good friend, Don Brannian of Brooklyn, Iowa; and many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Karen L. (Thomas R.) Brown; brothers-in-law, Paul, Herb and Tom Spencer and their wives. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 20 Jan 2016.
