Dean A. North, age 76 of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Hospice of Pella - Comfort House. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial will follow at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or will be used to start a scholarship in Dean's name for FFA. The son of James Howard and Edith Marie Ammer North, Dean was born on December 8, 1939, in Prairie City, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School in 1959. On December 14, 1962, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Van Zee at the Otley Reformed Church. Dean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy, two children, Dennis North and his wife Wanda of Monroe and Dara Strohman and her husband Bill of Algona; four grandchildren, Erin and Brady North and Abby and Josh Strohman. Also surviving is one brother, Leland North and his wife Sharon of Mississippi, two sisters, Judy Hunsicker and her husband Don of Des Moines and Janet Wagoner and her husband Lewis of Wyoming as well as several nieces and nephews.
