LaVerne was born December 30, 1924 in Des Moines to Wilton and Hazel Robison. He died December 18, 2015 in Miami, Florida. LaVerne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Carroll Henry July 30, 1948. They relocated to Boone, Iowa from 1959 to 1980 and then returned to Des Moines. LaVerne worked for several companies in cost accounting and time keeping, retiring from Economy Forms in 1989.

Surviving are his daughters, Paula (Luther) Bullard and Carla Robison of Clive, his grandchildren Sherry (Jason) Anderson, of West Des Moines, Eric (Amanda) Bullard of Newton, his great grandchildren, Natalie, Gunnar, Wyatt, and Tessa.
