John De Ronde, 57, Former Businessman In Monroe, Dies

MONROE - John De Ronde, 57, of Pella, former owner and operator of Duncan's Motel and Cafe in Monroe, died Monday morning at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Monroe.

The Rev. Jerry B. Wolcott, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Military graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the heart Fund will be accepted.

Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Gladys; a son, Douglas J. of Knoxville; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Evonne Lynn) Bucklin of Newton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Bob of Newton and Jacob, Nicholas and Cornelius, all of Pella; and three sisters, Mrs. Peter D. (Dora) Rus and Mrs. Harold (Jennie) Ver Meer, both of Pella, and Mrs. Raymond (Johanna) Van Heukelum of Orange City.

Mr. De Ronde, a former farmer, served in the Army from 1942 to 1946.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Easter Star No. 229, Fairview Masonic Lodge No. 194, American Legion Post 363 and Disable American Veterans, all of Monroe, and the Scottish Rite Temple and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, both of Des Moines.

The son of Arie and Hendrikje Menninga De Ronde, he was born Aug. 10, 1920 near Reasnor.

He was married to Gladys Merretta Klein May 21, 1948 at Otley. ~ Newspaper Unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 25 Apr 1978.
