On Friday night, January 8, Mr. John Hummel passed away at the age of 54 years. The immediate cause of his death was enlargement of the heart.

He was able to be downtown Thursday and although ailing for some time, the end came suddenly as he attempted to step from his chair to the bed.

He leaves a wife and eight children; seven girls, two of whom are married and one boy; also five brothers and three sisters, nearly all of whom were present at the funeral.

Services were held at the Baptist church by Rev. Webster, Sunday afternoon at half past two. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings. Interment was made in the Monroe Cemetery.

John Hummel, the well-known nursery man of Monroe, died very suddenly on Saturday, January 9.

He has been ailing for some time, had been up street and transacted business on Friday. While walking from the bed to a chair at his home, fell to the floor and died in a few minutes.

He was 54 years old and was interred n the Monroe Cemetery.
