Ruth Mercer, Former Newton Resident Dies

Mrs. Willard (Ruth) Mercer, 86, of Calimesa, Calif., a former resident of Newton, died Sunday at a nursing home in Redlands, Calif.

Funeral services, which will be held in California, are pending.

Survivors are two cousins, Mrs. Vergil (Alice) Garland of Newton and Mrs. Gary (Selma) Skoog of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969 and a brother.

While in Newton, Mrs. Mercer was employed at the Miller Dry Goods Store and the Maytag Co.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

The daughter of Henry F. and Nellie Korff, she was born Oct. 9, 1891 north of Newton.

She was married Aug. 27, 1927 at Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 27 Feb 1978.
