Leo E. Work Dies Sunday; Rites Tuesday

Leo Earl Work, 78, of 110 Country Club Acres, a resident of Newton since 1946 died Sunday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. Stanley Wierson, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Additional services will be held t 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Swea City. Burial will be in the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City.

Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 9 A.m. Tuesday.

Survivors are his wife, Anna; a son, Frederick Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Darwin (Cathleen) Springer of Newton; a grandson, Daniel Lee Springer of Newton; and two great-granddaughters, Deborah Gail Springer of Newton and Lora Work Hanoi of Houston, Tex.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Willliam (Bessie) Koons of Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. Clarence (Lida) Saxton of Edinberg, Tex.; and Mrs. Rex (Ruby) Funderburk of McAllen, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rachel Catherine; two brothers, Harley and Herbert; and two sisters, Eithel Funerburk and Nellie Craig.

Mr. Work, a member of the First United Methodist Church, had farmed until moving to Newton, had worked at the Automatic Washing Machine Co., and on construction work, and recently at the Holiday Inn.

The son of Frederick and Rachel Catherine Isenburger Work, he was born Jan 26, 1900 in Madison County.

He was married to Anna E. Ryzak Feb. 15, 1933 at Fairmont, Minn.

Mr. Work lived in Swea City from the age of 11 until moving to Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 20 Feb 1978.
