Rev. Peter Schild, Former Newton Area Pastor, Dead at 97

The Rev. Peter Schild, 97, of New Holstein, Wis., pastor of the Zoar United Church of Christ, north of Newton, from 1938 through 1944, died Sunday evening in New Holstein.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Church of Christ in New Holstein, Wis. Burial will be in New Holstein.

Survivors are his wife, Meta; four sons, Marcus of Newton, Ted of O Fallon, Ill., Alvin of Lawrence, Kan.; and Elwald of Yankton, S.D.; three duaghters, Mrs. L. P. (Cordelia) Blumberg of New Holstein, Wis., Mrs. H. K. (Mildred) L'Ecyer of Lawrence, Kan., and Mrs. E. A. (Ann) Hessert of Wausau, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren, and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Bertha Ketterhenra, in 1958.

The Rev. Mr. Schild was born in Switzerland.

He was married to Bertha Ketterhenry in 1909 and to Meta Mawer in 1959 in Kiel, Wis. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News Mon 20 Feb 1978.
