Richard “Dick” Keith Verwers, 79, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side.

Graveside services for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Chester Cemetery located in Grinnell, Iowa, with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. There will be no public visitation prior to services. Memorial contributions may be directed in in Dick’s name to the Wounded Warriors. Richard Keith Verwers was born on January 31, 1936 in Kellogg, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Cook) Verwers. He was raised and educated in the Kellogg school district, graduating from Kellogg High School. Following high school, Dick honorably served his country with the United States Marine Corp.

On September 26, 1959, Dick married the love of his life, Roberta Rickard in California. From this union two children were born: David and Karel.

Dick was a hardworking man retiring from Fisher Control and later working with Ferrellgas in Tama, Iowa. A few of his passions in life were his family who he loved dearly, farming and Hummingbirds.

Left to cherish his memory are his two children: David Verwers and Karel (Terry) Ireland; grandchildren: Damien (Kelly) Verwers, Stephanie (Scott) Lampson and Valorie (David) Peitzman; great-grandchildren: Sebastian, Sevannah, Sierrah (Lampson) Ashton, Ethan (Fuches), Arianna Ireland and David (Spencer); siblings: Jim (Trudy) Verwers.

He is preceded in death by his lovely wife, parents, one brother: Dale; one sister: Rosemary; son-in-law: Rick Cooling and two grandchildren: Phillip and Sarah Cooling. ~ The Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown, Iowa 7 Nov 2015.
