Vera E. Osten, 105, of Baxter, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Baxter Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 5, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials in Vera’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Vera, the daughter of William and Martha (Kanne) Saak, was born on October 16, 1910 in rural Jasper County, Iowa by Baxter. She was united in marriage with Les Osten in 1935 and they were blessed with one son, Norman in 1946. Vera was a homemaker and also did babysitting, both in her home and in other people’s homes. She loved the children that she babysat like they were her own. Vera was one of the longest standing members at the Baxter UCC Church and had also been a member at the St. John’s Church. She enjoyed taking care of her garden, her home, and her family.

Those left to honor Vera’s memory are her son, Norman Osten (Jean Nagle) of Newton, two grandchildren, Allyson Needham of Newton and Jason Osten of Colorado; great-granddaughter, Ashley Needham; and her dear friend, Jimmy Newton of Baxter.
