Jared Parker died on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, after a serious motorcycle accident.

Jared was born in Newton May 29, 1979. While growing up he was active in 4-H, played drums and was on the school football and wrestling teams. After graduating from Newton High School in 1997, he earned his bachelor’s degree in leisure services from the University of Northern Iowa, and then worked at YMCA camps on the East Coast for several years before returning to UNI to complete his master’s degree. He moved to Omaha in 2009, to take the position as director of the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center. Shortly thereafter, he met his wife, Jennifer. They were married in 2011, and their daughter, Violet, was born in 2014.

Jared was a joyful, gentle, optimistic and generous husband, father, son, brother and friend. He discovered his love of camping in his youth, and dedicated his career to the same organizations that nurtured him as a child. He was well-loved by campers, colleagues and classmates.

Jared was preceded in death by his birth mother, Debra Parker. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Parker; daughter, Violet Parker; parents, Brent Parker and Suzanne Secor Parker; brother, Travis (Jennifer) Parker; sister, Laura Parker; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

The memorial service will be Monday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 308 E. Second St. N. in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 17 Sept 2015.
