Mrs. Silas Smith

Susan Thompson was born in Licking county, Ohio, August 13, 1838, and died in Reasnor, Iowa, May 17, 1912, aged 73 years and nine months.

She was married to Silas Smith March 11, 1855, converted and united with the church as a girl. For more than 57 years she and her husband have been members of the church together.

One son, Francis Marion, died in infancy. Two sons survive, Charles Wilbert, of Sedan, Kas. and John Arthur of Reasnor, Iowa. A niece lived in the home from a child to young womanhood, Josephine Martin. She died about a year ago.

Mrs. Smith bore her share of toil and sacrifice in building up a home in a new country. To that home friends and strangers alike were always welcome. Her last long illness was borne patiently, her trust was in the Lord and for her death had no sting, nor the grave any victory.

She was a good woman, full of faith. The funeral, conducted by Rev. F. S. Seeds, was held from the Reasnor Methodist church and the burial was in the U.P. [Palo Alto] cemetery Monday afternoon, May 20th. The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, May 22, 1912
