KELLOGG – Betty Jean (Briggs) Badger, 71, of Kellogg died May 11 at her home.
Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. At Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Larry Pauley of Kellogg United Methodist Church officiating. A coffee time and visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home following services.
Memorials will be accepted to the Kellogg Historical Society and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to box 195, Kellogg 50135.
The daughter of Nelson and Irene (Hay) Briggs, she was born March 1, 1932, in rural Kellogg. During her high school years, she lived with her maternal grandparents, Clayton and Rose Hay, in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1950. She attended Iowa State University for one year, and was employed by the Maytag Company for more than 34 years. She retired in May 1987. She was a member of Kellogg Untied Methodist Church and the Kellogg Historical Society and enjoyed doing crafts and needlework.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Tustin of Escondido, Calif., two grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Charles Gall of Hinckley, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gregory Briggs; maternal and paternal grandparents. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton , Iowa Wed 15 Oct 2003.
