Donald L. Ogden, 75, of rural Newton, died of cancer Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. At the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Steven Mathison-Bowie officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name to the Kidney Care of Newton, Don Ogden Westwood Golf Course Memorial or to Newton Cardinal Baseball.
The son of Clem and Dorothy (Howell) Ogden, he was born July 18, 1928, in Ottumwa. He graduated from Ottumwa High School. On Jan. 21, 1949, he married Pat McConnell in Ottumwa. He worked for Morrell Meat Packing Plant in Ottumwa for 26 years and for the Maytag Company. He retired in 1993. He also was a member of the maintenance staff at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton.
Mr. Ogden was a member of Westwood Golf Course and U.A.W. Local No. 997 Retirees Union. He was an avid Newton Cardinal baseball, basketball and football fan. He played on the American Legion Baseball team and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Ron Colwell of Moravia, Kay Ogden of Urbandale and Lori and Galen Modlin of Newton; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 15 Oct 2003.
