Stella May, daughter of Wm. H. and Ann Daft, was born near Center school house, Washington Township, June 26, 1875, and died at her home in Colfax on August 19, 1912, being a little more than 37 years of age. She was married to Alex Rose on Nov. 29, 1903. Three children were born to them, all of whom are living.

Stella, as she was known to all her friends, spent all her life until her marriage in the home where she was born. Since then she has lived in Grinnell and Colfax. Never very strong, she has known much suffering, but for the past year her health has been so much improved that she apparently had many years of life, but last Wednesday while attending to her household duties she was taken suddenly very sick. It was known from the first that she could not recover. All that loving hands could do was done to relieve her intense suffering.

She joined the Baptist Church in Grinnell about eight years ago, and as best she could, has lived a consistent Christian life. Besides her husband and three little children she leaves her mother, one brother and two sisters; her father and two sisters having gone before to that land where sickness and suffering are unknown, and where the relatives heave the Christian hope that she is at rest.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday, August 20th, at 2:00 p.m. By Rev. Edward Pruitt, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Prairie City. ~ Newspaper unknown Aug 1912.
