Ervin H. “Frenchy” Arlt, 79, of Rt. 2, Newton, a resident of the Newton area since 1947, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 30, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines of complications of a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Roger Neumann, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Saturday. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Grace Lutheran Church will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Gladys; a son, Duane of Cerritos, Calif.; three daughters, Jeanne (Mrs. Harold) Smith of Colfax, Gloria (Mrs. Jim) Stewart of Silvis, Ill., and Linda (Mrs. Jerry) Binegar of Newton; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Art of Morgan, Minn., Arnold of Plummer, Minn., and Lloyd of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and two sisters, Evelyn Ulrich of Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Alice Cormican of Euclid, Minn.

Mr Arlt, a member of Grace Lutheran Church, retired from the maintenance department of the Maytag Co. in 1975.

The son of August L. and Mattie Gustofson Arlt, he was born Jan. 12, 1912 in Minnesota and attended Minnesota country schools.

He was married to Gladys Schlarbaum Dec. 31, 1956 in Altoona. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 31 Jan 1991.
