Arlie Babbitt

Arlie Babbitt, 77, of 620 S. 4th Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1969, died Wednesday morning, March 20, of cancer at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bruce's Funereal Home in Fort Dodge.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services.

A memorial service will be held at the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ.

A reception will follow the services.

Mr. Babbitt was an employee of the Maytag Co. prior to his retirement Nov. 16, 1979.

Previously he was employed for 26 years at the Vincent Clay Products Co,

Survivors are his wife, Hazel S.; a son, David of Kellogg; two daughters, Delores (Mrs. Milford) Ober of Newton and Karen (Mrs. Jerry) Ayers of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Kenneth of Portland, Ore., and six sisters, Zola Nellis, Wilma Shadbolt, Helene Bass and Roberta Kuhn, all of Fort Dodge, Helen Weiss of Barnum and Gay Larson of Camdenton, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sharon, in infancy, a twin sister, Arlene, and two brothers and three other sisters.

The son of James and Los Kendall Babbitt, he was born Jan. 20, 1914 in Creston. He attended Webster County Schools.

He was married to Hazel Sara Mc Luckie Aug. 2, 1936 in Fort Dodge.

Mr. Babbitt, a Navy veteran of World War II, resided in Fort Dodge prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 21 Mar 1991.
