IOWA CITY, Iowa - Clarence H. Hackney, 91, of Iowa City formerly of Jasper County, died of heart failure, Thursday, Oct. 9, in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Matthew Martens, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call at Reese Funeral Home in Newton after noon today where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight.

Memorials to First Lutheran Church will be accepted.

The son of James and Anna Dimon Hackney, he was born May 8, 1906, in Jasper County.

He married Frances Tinnermeier Aug. 19, 1931, in Newton.

A longtime resident of Jasper County, he moved to Iowa City two years ago.

He was employed by Iowa Southern Utilities from 1929 until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lind and Douglas Larson of Iowa City; a son, Keith of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister; a brother; and two infant sons. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Oct 1997.
