David S. Trotter, 95, of Newton died on Monday, June 29, 2015, at Heritage Manor. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the church the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dave, the son of Sam and Cecil (Davis) Trotter, was born on May 28, 1920 in Newton, where he was a lifelong resident. Dave was united in marriage to Clarice McWhirter on February 9, 1941 in Princeton, Missouri. He worked as a machinist and supervisor for 35 years at the Parsons Company. Following the closing of Parsons, Dave worked at Midwest Manufacturing and then as a jailer at the Jasper County Sherriff’s Office, retiring in 1983. Following retirement, Dave and Clarice helped run Clarice’s family resort for five years in Waterville, Minnesota.

He was an active member of the First Christian Church, serving as a Deacon. He was also a member of the UAW Local 997 and enjoyed woodworking, especially building benches for family and friends.

Those left to honor Dave’s memory are his wife, Clarice Trotter of Newton; children, Saundra (Richard) Funk of Milford, Doug (Anita) Trotter of Newton, and Rick Trotter of Kellogg; grandchildren, Gary Funk, Eric (Chrisann) Funk, Scott Funk, Joseph (Carrie) Funk, Ryan (Jodi) Funk, Rob Trotter, Lisa Trotter-Kruse, Chasity Trotter (Earl Knox), Brittany Trotter, and Cody Trotter; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Terry Trotter of California; and a sister-in-law, Alice Trotter of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Michael Trotter; great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Knox; and siblings, Jack, Ron, and Billy Trotter and two sisters and three brothers in infancy. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 29 May 2015.
