Funeral services for Murrell Raymond Bowen, 79, a resident of Colfax since 1972, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 28, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church conducted the services. Burial was in the Greencastle Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, Dec. 25, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Survivors are a brother, Robert of Prairie City; and a sister, Mrs. Travis (Kathryn) Walters of Prairie City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Lillian Neal Altes and two brothers.
Mr. Bowen, an Army veteran of World War II, had been a supervisor at Winpower Corporation in Newton, and had worked at John Deere Co. in Waterloo, American Telegraph and Telephone and had operated a restaurant in Colorado.
The son of William and Elizabeth Bowen, he was born Sept. 7, 1905 in Avery and was a 1924 graduate of Prairie City Community High School. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Dec 1984.
