Purvis, Floyd LaSalle – 1919-2013

Floyd LaSalle Purvis, 94, of Grinnell, formerly of Kellogg, died on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Grinnell Regional Hospice may be left at the funeral home.
Floyd, the son of Francis LeRoy and Essie Marie (Hiatt) Purvis, was born on May 14, 1919, in Moravia. He graduated from Moravia High School in 1938. Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945.
Floyd was then united in marriage with Maxine McBroom on Sept. 1, 1945, in Kellogg. They made their home in the Kellogg area. Floyd worked at the Maytag Company for 30 years as a fork truck driver in shipping and receiving, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Newton, Local UAW 997, Kellogg Historical Society and the Iconium Methodist Church. In 2009, Floyd and Maxine moved to Grinnell. Floyd was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Those left to honor Floyd’s memory are his wife, Maxine Purvis of Grinnell; two daughters, Pamela (Vernon “Chip”) Gibson of Grinnell and Denise Sedlock and her fiancé, Bob Frondle, of Grinnell; two son-in-laws, Charles Foster and Steve Foster; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his sister, Florene Brown of Centerville; brother, Freeman (Mary) Purvis of Centerville; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Judith Foster and Kathy Foster; one sister in infancy; and his three brothers, Ferrel, Francis, and Forrest Purvis.
