Harold L. VanDerHart, 87, of Prairie City died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Park Centre in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the church. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Harold L. VanDerHart, age 87 of Prairie City, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Park Centre in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or Gideon's. The son of Walter and Ruth (Painter) VanDerHart, Harold Lee was born on August 15, 1926, in Prairie City. He graduated from Monroe High School. On February 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Freda Tukker at the CRC minister's home in Otley, Iowa. Harold farmed his entire life not retiring until 85 years old. He sold Archer Oil products for many years. He was a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church serving as an elder numerous times. He was a member of Gideon's International (Newton Camp).

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Freda; children, Larry (Wilma) VanDerHart of Monroe and Elaine (Verlan) Struik of Leighton; seven grandchildren, Brian (Jen) VanDerHart of Bondurant, Bradley (Jenny) VanDerHart of Monroe, Greg (Sarah) VanDerHart of Prairie City, Kyle VanDerHart of Monroe, Jeffrey (Ashley) Struik of Madison, Alabama, Joel Struik of Leighton, and Andrea (Ekow) Addo of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and 11 great grandchildren, Evan, Noah, Cody, Cade, Jaydon, Peyton, Elijah, Dakota, Josiah, Zeth and Zayda. Also surviving are his brothers, Doyle (Opal) VanDerHart of Newton, Donald (Marie) VanDerHart of Newton, and Francis (Joyce) VanDerHart of Monroe; a sister, Evelyn Van Dusseldorp of Pella; and two sisters-in-law, Cornelia Tukker of Oskaloosa, and Kathy Holt of San Antonio, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Ruth VanDerHart, step mother, Leola VanDerHart; and infant sister; brother-in-law, Francis Van Dusseldorp; his father and mother-in-law, John and Anna Tukker; and in-laws, Cornie and Florence Tukker, Marie and John Davis, Angeline and Henry Ryke, Gertrude and John Weyers, Elmer Tukker, Elizabeth and Fay Wagner and Don Holt. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 7 Oct 2013.
