GRINNELL – Funeral services for Wes Van Wyk, 16, of Rt. 1, Grinnell, who died early Sunday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident west of Grinnell, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Grinnell Christian Church.

The Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials in his name may be left at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Survivors are his parents, Vernon and Loretta Penick Van Wyk of Grinnell; a sister, Marcy Van Wyk of Grinnell; two half-brothers, Mark Van Wyk of des Moines and Curt Van Wyk of Sully; and two half-sisters, Nancy Van Genderen of Sully and Ruth Ann Van Soelen of Sully.

Also surviving are his paternal grandparents, Wilburn and Frances Van Wyk of Sully, and his maternal grandparents, Bob and Vera Penick of Indianola.

He was a member of the junior class at Grinnell-Newburg Community High School, Grinnell’s South Central Iowa conference championship football squad and was a member of the school’s Honor “G” Club.

He also was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church.
