William C. Van Gorp

William C. “Bill” Van Gorp, 75, of 1004 S. 13th Ave. W., a contractor and owner-operator of Van Gorp Construction Co. in Newton, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Community Reformed Church.

The Rev. Du Wayne Hanke, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Military rites will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Friday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. to time of services Saturday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to American heart Association may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Marie; and a sister, Janetta M. (Mrs. Jacob) Vander Hart of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Nicholas and Marvin and a brother in infancy, his first wife, the former Lorraine Durham, and his second wife, the former Dorothy Young.

Mr. Van Gorp was a member of the Community Reformed Church, Noon Kiwanis Club, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, Newton BPOE Elks Lodge 1270 and Newton Country Club.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

The son of Peter W. and Josephine J. De Wit Van Gorp, he was born Jan. 5, 1915 in Pella and attended Pella Christian School.

He was married to Marie Stinson Young March 14, 1981 at his home in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 28 Feb 1991.
