Dave Scott Passed Away Saturday Noon

Had Been Resident of Colfax for Many Years

Dave Scott, a well known resident of this city, passed away Saturday noon, following an illness of several weeks, death resulting from a tumor of the brain.

For the past several years he with his wife have conducted a rooming house on Front street, and previous to that he had spent many years as a chef and was considered one of the best.

David Trueman Scott was born February 27, 1870, in Madison County, Iowa. About 35 years ago he came to Colfax looking for work, which he found. Through his labor he bought a home on East Front Street, and in the, and in the course of many years has made many improvements in his home. Within his own home on July 18, 1910, he married Mrs. Corabell Horton. For over ten years he worked as a chef in the Mason House. Later years their

home was made into a rooming house, for a few years also serving meals. Health began two years ago to slowly slip away. A strong fight was made to hold his own, but all in vain. His labor and suffering left, leaving rest and peaceful sleep at 12 o’clock noon, in his home, September 19, 1931.

Father, mother, and three brothers preceded him in death.

Living to meet this loss to the earth, his wife, and two sisters, Mrs. Emily Ochempaugh, Mrs. Ellen Nendick, of Colfax. Three brothers, Charles of Sioux City, Iowa; Burt of Bedford, Iowa, and Walter of Des Moines, Iowa. Also many friends who will remember the cheery smile he had for all, and the interest he took in his home.

In the morning we awaken to lies opportunities
Noon we are working on life’s possibilities,
In the evening remember the joys that were best,
Night falls and finds us asleep and at rest.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Christian Church with Rev. J. W. Taenzler officiating.

The music was furnished by a quartette composted of Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. George Robinson and Messers M. A. and Chester Binkerd, with Mrs. Ezra Calhoon, accompanist. The pall bearers were Dan Williams, Joe Weresh, Howard Pigg, William Pollard, C. A. Leseney and Foster Langhoff.

Scott Monday were his brothers, Burt Scott of Bedford and Walter Scott and wife of Des Moines, and nieces, Mrs. Herman Scavo, husband and son, and Mrs. John Snyder of Des Moines, nephew Carl Murphy and wife of Newton, her niece, Miss Alice Mills of Des Moines and friends Mr. and Mrs. Steven Major and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Lynch and son Alva of Green Mountain, T.
