Robert L. "California Bob" Eisele, 69 of Newton died of cancer Tuesday at home. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Eisele was born in Albuquerque, N.M., and had lived in California before moving to Newton nine years ago. He was a retired mechanical engineer with Stanford University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Newton Sky Kings and Friends of the Animals. He received recognition for his engineering work with several teams at Stanford that won the Nobel Prize in physics.

His wife, Beverly, survives.
