Alice J. Williams, 94, of Colfax, died on Saturday, September 20, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 25, at the First United Methodist Church in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, September 24, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Colfax, Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, or the United Church of Ira, may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service. Alice, the daughter of Charles William “Bud” and Lovina Blanche (Lloyd) Sage, was born on January 30, 1920 in Oswalt, Iowa, just north of Colfax. She attended country school and graduated from Colfax High School in 1937.

Alice was united in marriage with Dick Russell Williams on August 23, 1942 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived for a short time in Maryland while Dick was in the service, but then returned to their home in rural Colfax. Alice was a dedicated farmer, taking care of the turkeys and chickens. She also loved children and watched many in her home throughout the years. She was an active member of the Howard Street Christian Church and later the First United Methodist Church in Colfax. Alice served on many boards within the church, as a deacon and trustee, taught Sunday School and Bible School, belonged to the women’s circles, and was in charge of the Adopt a Family program. She was also a member of the Colfax Senior Citizens and the Blanford Friendly Circle. Alice enjoyed quilting and crocheting, but most of all was a loving mommom to her only granddaughter, Sarah.

left to honor Alice’s memory are her daughter, Beth (Jim) Van Elsen of Newton and granddaughter, Sarah Van Elsen of Springfield, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick Russell Williams; her brother, Little Harry Sage; and a sister-in-law, Verna Williams. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 20 Sept 2014.
