Theodore Roosevelt Haning

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Theodore Roosevelt "Ted" Haning, 76, of High Point, N.C., formerly of Newton, died Friday, May 11, at the High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the High Point Friends Meeting with the Rev. Dave Kingrey and the Rev. Victor Murchison officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Harold C. Davis Funeral Home in High Point, N.C. is handling arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to High Point Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 5166, High Point, N.C. 27262.

The son of Oliver Earl and Nina Hodgson Haning, he was born April 11, 1925, in Newton. He was a graduate of Colfax High School and a sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He worked with the City of Des Moines before moving to High Point, N.C., in 1953. He worked for the City of High Point and then went to work for Pilot Life Insurance Co. in 1957. He retired as assistant secretary of Pilot Life. He was a member of High Point Friends Meeting, where he served in various positions. He also was active in the Deep River Quarterly Meeting and the NC Yearly Meeting. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of the Piedmont. He sang solos with several groups including the Deep River Men's Chorus.

Survivors include his wife, Melita Eldridge Haning; a son and daughter-in-law, Eldridge and Samantha of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Janet of Phoenix, Edward and Phyllis of Omaha, Neb., James and Roberta of Des Moines, Dave and Patricia of Bondurant; and Richard and Helen of Newton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Eldridge. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, Saturday, Maay 12, 2001
