Herman D. Bickle

Herman D. Bickle, 67, of 421 E. 9th ST N. died of renal failure, Sunday, March 5, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Evalyn Carlson, interim pastor of First Christian Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Eden Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Bickle's name will be accepted.

The son of George W. and Aletha Baker Bickle, he was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Palmira. He was a 1951 graduate of Hartford High School and attended Iowa City Commercial College and Des Moines Area Community College. He married Leona L. Rinard June 18, 1961, in Colfax.

A resident of Newton since 1954, Mr. Bickle was employed as a steam plan operator by the Maytag company before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the UAW Local No. 997 and Iowa Honey Producers. Mr. Bickle was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, TSgt. Rickie D. and Anita R. of Ellsworth AFB, S.D.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold and JoAnn and Robert of Palmira; and special friends, Lisa and Kevin Fox and their children of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, March 7, 2000.
