A Newton Man Killed
Des Moines Capital. Jan. 10 – A frightful fall of 215 feet down the elevator shaft at the Saylor coal mine late yesterday evening killed N. D. Logsdon, a miner employed at the mine. Logsdon had come to the top of the shaft a short time before at the close of the day’s work and had gone back to the mouth of the shaft when in some way he fell in and dropped the entire length of the shaft to the surface below. His body was dreadfully mangled and the bones of the head, arms and legs were crushed and broken. His body was at once brought to the top of the shaft and was removed to his home a short distance from the mine.
Mr. Logsdon was a young married man with a wife and one child. He has been employed at the mines for some time.
He is the son of James Logsdon, of this city and was born and raised here. He has assisted Mr. D. B. Kuhn at the cemetery during the summer, for the past five years, and who speaks of him in complimentary terms.
