Jack Stauffer, 86, died at home in Evergreen on Feb. 24, 2015. He was born in Newton, Iowa, and raised in Evanston, Ill. He attained Eagle Scout rank and graduated from Evanston Township High School.

He served with the U.S. Navy mostly as a "tin can sailor." He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, which led to a diverse career encompassing several states and countries.
He was a born engineer, who relished fixing things and had a true passion for building, driving and racing sports cars. He enjoyed many hours on Evergreen Lake as a Red Cross sailing instructor and speed skater until age 85.
Jack was a loyal member of The Curmudgeons and was looking forward to completing 2,000 miles of lap swimming at the Wulf Recreation Center with 75 miles to go. Other interests included Native American art, the comics, coin collecting, and the Colorado mountains and wildlife.

Jack is survived by Marion, his wife of nearly 62 years; his children, Jim (Kim), Julie and Nancy (Patrick); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his devoted kitty-cat and summer's hummingbirds.

Services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery this spring. He will forever live in the hearts of his loving family and many friends.
