John G. Scott died Monday morning at the old homestead in this, Independence township, at the age of 89 years and 28 days; was married in 1833 to the companion who survives him, and whose birthday was the same as his, except that she was 81 years. His first vote was for William Henry Harrison, while some of his grandsons’ first votes were for Benjamin Harrison. Two brothers, two sisters, his wife and three children survive him. He came to Iowa in 1867 and settled on the place where he died. Funeral took place at the house at 2 p.m., Wednesday, the 9th, Rev. Tillitt having charge of the services.
