Guy Edmond "Pitts" Wade, the son of Sidney and Anna Stewart Wade, was born May 23, 1922 at Thor, Iowa. He later moved to Colfax with his family and was graduated from the Colfax High School. He served during World War II with the US Navy. After extensive training, Guy served as a bombardier during the war. Following his release from the servicer, Guy was employed by the Maytag Company for 21 years, retiring from the dryer assembly department in 1984.
On Tuesday evening, April 6, 1993, death came to Guy at the Mercy Hospital medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty on November 30, 1985; a brother, Jackie Wade and a sister, Leona Banghart.
Those left to honor the memory of Guy include his wife, Pat Hodges Wade of Newton; his sons, Jay Wade and David Wade, both of Newton; his daughter, Linda Swihart of Kellogg, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Dixie Wade of newton; his step-son, Gregg Hodges of Ames, Iowa; his step-daughter, Kristen, Mrs. Brad Carlisle of Newton; eight grandchildren, Cory Wade, Jayson Wade, Angie Pickett, matt Wade, josh Wade, Travis Swihart, Blake Swihart, and Taylor Carlisle; one great-granddaughter, Sidney Pickett; four brothers, George Wade of Newton, LeRoy Wade of Newton, Bill Wade of Colfax and Mack Wade of Colfax; and four sisters, Letha Eddy of California, Mary Harmon of California, Dorothy Howell of Colfax, and Ruby Murray of Newton.
Funeral service held at First Lutheran Church Newton, Iowa on Saturday, April 10, 1993 at 1:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Matthew Martens, pastor. Military service by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1655, Newton, Iowa. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Newton, Iowa
Bearers were: Richard Howell, Ronald Murray, Chris Wade, Craig Wade, John Wade, and Leslie Wade.
