Mrs. Paul Cortez Died Suddenly Tuesday Morning
Mrs. Paul Cortez, 34, of So. Goodrich St. in this city, died at 2:30 Tuesday morning in the Skiff hospital at Newton, Iowa as a result of a heart attack suffered Monday morning.
Mrs. Cortez had been in her usual good health and had risen early Monday morning to prepare the lunch bucket for her husband, who is employed on the section crew of the Rock Island railroad. She had been up just a short time when she became suddenly ill, and a local physician was called. Following an examination in the home, she was taken to the Skiff hospital in Newton where her condition gradually grew worse until the end came Tuesday morning.
Addie Fuller was born May 2, 1920 in Florala, Alabama, the daughter of Walter and Rendie Fuller, and spent most of her life in the southern part of the United States. She attended schools in the southland, and on March 1, 1945 was married to Paul Cortez at Crestview, Fla. Mr. Cortez was stationed in the Air Force at Eglin Field, Fla., when the couple met.
The family came to Colfax in November of 1954 and have made this city their home since that time.
Surviving besides her husband are five children, including three daughters, Jacqulyn Lee, 9, Ella Louise 8, Harriett Linda 6, two sons, Walter Franklin, 5 and Freddie Paul 1. Two children by a previous marriage also survive Mrs. Cortez, they being John Cecil Fuller, 16 and James Smith Fuller, 12. Others left to mourn her passing are her mother, 1 sister, Mrs. Mary McNeal of Florala, Alabama, and four brothers, Monroe, James W. and John all of Miami, Florida, and Wylie of Florala, Ala.
Funeral arrangements were indefinite at this writing, pending word from relatives in the south.
