Was A Well Known Salesman In Jasper and Polk Counties
Earnest A. Waltz of this city, passed away Wednesday evening, September 7th, at his home in this city, following an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Waltz came to Iowa with his parents in the early sixties and settled at Mitchellville, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood. He came to Colfax in 1898 and has since made this his home.
For many years Mr. Waltz acted in capacity of salesman for a hardware and implement firm and later for automobile firms and his acquaintance throughout this part of the county was atmost numbered by the houses on the highway. As a young man, he learned the blacksmith trade and while considered an expert, he did not follow the trade in his more mature years, devoting his time to the selling of goods.
E. A. Waltz was born August 11, 1856 at Westfield, Sauk county, Wisconsin, the son of Simon and Catherine Hile, and passed away at his home in Colfax, Iowa, September 7, 1932, aged 76 years.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Waltz, three sons and three daughters, and three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Mason of Mitchellville, Mrs. Swank of Des Moines and Mrs. Holfs of Reeheight, S. Dak., besides other relatives and a host of friends.
The children are: Harry Waltz of Des Moines; Mrs. Roy Betz of Des Moines; Grace Waltz of Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Robert Van Dyke, Runnells; Charley Waltz of Denver, Colo.; and Roy Waltz of Minnesota.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. L. C. McDonald officiating.
Music was furnished by a quartette composed of J. A. Davis, Mrs. Earl Plummer and Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Van Dyke, with William Cubit presiding at the organ.
Pall bearers were S. C. Paschal, Luke Sharples, Alf. Tobias, Earl Plummer, Henry Sharp, Loyd Everett and Henry Musser.
Interment was made at the Mitchellville cemetery.
